Academic Distinctions, Gold Medals, and Pass
A graduate is awarded one of the following distinctions based on his academic performance, provided he has no F grade in any credited course of the degree programme on his transcript and never has been placed on probation during the degree programme; and never had registered less than the normal course load in any semester during the entire degree programme.
a. Highest Distinction
Highest distinction is granted to a student with registered course load not less than the normal load in all the semesters, whose CGPA is between 3.90 and 4.00, inclusive.
b. High Distinction
High distinction is granted to a student with registered course load not less than the normal load in all the semesters, whose CGPA is between 3.75 and 3.89, inclusive.
Distinction is granted to a student with registered course load not less than the normal load in all the semesters, whose CGPA is between 3.50 and 3.74, inclusive.
In every session, in every degree programme, a gold medal is awarded to the student who has achieved the maximum Cumulative GPA amongst all the graduates registered for the degree programme offered at KUST. The student in such cases must have completed all the degree requirement in not more than the normal duration, must have studied all the courses required for the degree program at KUST (i.e. not a transferred student), must have registered no less than the normal course load every semester, must never been on probation during the entire degree programme at KUST and must not be fined by the discipline committee on the bais of ill-discipline in the University. The minimum Cumulative GPA in all such cases must not be less than 3.00/4.00 in case of undergraduate and 3.5/4.00 in case of graduate degree. The minimum number of students in the degree programme must not be less than 5 in a session in order to be eligible for a gold medal.
A student will be declared passed if he successfully completes all the requirements set for a degree from KUST and attains a cumulative GPA greater than 2.00 for Undergraduate, 2.50 for MS/MPhil, and 3.00 for PhD degree. The concerned department issue degree completion certificate /provisional certificate.
