Introduction

The 1st Graduate Workshop (KustGW 2020) is a venue to provide a forum for students of MS/PhD programmes at any university/institute to present their work and receive constructive feedback from experts in the relevant field as well as from other researchers. The presentation of the work will be augmented with general advices and useful discussions about getting MS/PhD degree, perform research and different career perspectives. We are expecting submission of papers from MS/PhD students at any stage of their graduate programme. In the workshop we will organize “mentoring”. The main purpose is to give students an opportunity to talk one-to-one about their research work with experts in the fields beyond those that are present at the student’s universities.

 

Goal of the Workshop

 The objective of the workshop is to provide constructive feedback and advice students of MS/PhD on technical aspects of their research as well as career perspectives. We are expecting different types of attendees like; students to present their research topics as well as senior researchers who will attend the workshop to share their expertise and provide feedback. The workshop will give opportunities for students to meet with peers outside their home institution, receive technical feedback, receive career advices from experts in their field and to look for internship/researcher/job opportunities. The workshop also provides a form to students to present their own work in public. Presenters will be awarded certificates of presentation that can be used for completing the requirements of award of MS/PhD degree at different institutions.

We expect paper submission from current MS/PhD students who have selected a research topic. Research topics of interests include the proposed system including work on formal foundation, design, implementation and evaluation. Specifically, research topics include, but not limited to:

  • Parallelism, concurrency, and multicore systems
  • Real-time, embedded, and cyber-physical systems
  • Secure systems, privacy and anonymity preserving systems
  • Tracing, analysis, and transformation of systems
  • Virtualization systems

Note: the workshop is not a venue for publication; there will be no published proceedings.

 

Submission Instructions

 If you are interested to join in the workshop, you are requested to submit your paper before the deadline.

 Submissions should be up to 4 pages (including title and figures but excluding references) and should include the following sections only:

  • Abstract
  • Introduction (problem statement, an overview of the proposed work, main differences from existing works)
  • Overview of the proposed work
  • Preliminary results (if applicable)
  • Work to be done (description of the planned work to address the proposed research problem and brief timeline to MS/PhD completion)
  • Related work

Submissions will be processed based on the importance, clarity, excellent understanding of the core related work, realistic and clear roadmap to work completion towards the MS/PhD, and overall quality of the submission paper. Please note that there will be no published proceedings. Submissions shall be in .pdf, 2-column, single-spaced, 10pt format.

In addition, please include the following information in your submission form:

  • MS/PhD supervisor’s name and affiliation
  • Year when you started your MS/PhD
  • Expected submission date of the MS/PhD thesis


Important Dates

 Submission due: February 3rd, 2020 (23:59 hrs)

Acceptance notification: March 13th, 2020

Workshop Date: March 25, 2020 (Wednesday)

 

Participation Fee

Presentation fee: 2000 Pakistani Rupees per presenter (50% discount for KUST students)
