The Botany department was initiated in 2005 but recently it has been renamed with a new name, i.e., Botanical and Environmental Science after the initiation of Environmental Sciences program in 2017. The department was started in a very small building of only three rooms but during its first decade, the department has developed a large & productive research & teaching group in the field of Botany and Environmental Sciences.

Currently, the department has well-furnished classrooms and laboratories to fulfill the academic requirements of the undergraduate and graduate students. The department offers BS, MSc, MPhil and PhD degree in Botany whereas in Environmental Sciences currently BS degree is offered. Admissions in MPhil and PhD programmes in Environmental Sciences will be offered in the near future.

Our faculty members are working in many specialized fields of Plant Science such as Plant Ecology, Plant Physiology, Plant Ecophysiology, Plant Taxonomy, Ethnomedicinal studies, Palynology, Molecular Biology, Plant Genetics, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Biology, GIS and Remote sensing and Solid Waste Management.

During a short period of time, the department has completed many research projects with the support of national & international funding organizations & several research projects are in progress.

The department is planning to establish a Botanical garden, Herbarium and Environmental laboratory that will help to provide variety of services to local community and will build a base to our department at national & international level for research.
